Lyme Disease is a serious emerging disease in the Maritimes that can be contracted from the bite of an infected tick.
That’s the word from researchers, doctors and other experts – many of whom were on hand in Moncton this weekend at the Maritime Tick and Tick Vector Disease Research Conference.
Cathie Smith has been living with Lyme Disease since 1999.
“Life is getting up every morning with horrendous head pressure, twitching in my face, numbness in my face, numbness of my feet, my hands, muscle spasms, pain in my abdomen, pain in my chest,” says Smith.
Smith believes the Lyme Disease is reaching epidemic levels in Canada, and says conferences like these help raise awareness.
