Wait Times Longest In New Brunswick According To New Study

According to a study done by the Fraser Institute, wait times for health care from referral to treatment were longest in New Brunswick of any province.

The study finds the wait time in New Brunswick is 37.3 weeks compared to 32.7 weeks in Nova Scotia ands 14.1 weeks in Ontario which was the shortest.

The Fraser Institute claims in “Waiting Your Turn”, you can expect to wait more than 42 weeks for orthopaedic surgery and more than 21 weeks just for the initial appointment with a neurosurgeon and then almost 10 weeks for treatment. On the bright side, only 3.3 weeks for medical oncology and 4.2 weeks for radiation oncology.

The number of medical procedures people are waiting for has risen this year to over 937 thousand.

The report goes on to conclude the wait times, in general, are longer than what doctors, themselves, consider to be clinically reasonable.
