The first state of emergency of any kind in the Port City in 28 years is needed to create and maintain access.
Access to streets in the South end for paramedics, police and fire.
Saint John Fire Chief Kevin Clifford says the proof is in trying to drive the streets and you will see the challenges they face.
He says with the amount of snow they had and with what is coming they are not able to get ahead of it.
Acting Traffic Sergeant Tom Clayton of the Saint John Police says they want people to make an effort to get their vehicles out.
Clayton says they are not are there to punish or persecute people and they wouldn’t be doing this if wasn’t for public safety.
Vehicles in the Southern Peninsula that are not removed will be towed–that process is underway.
Parking is available for south end residents who have a on street parking pass holders in the Peel Plaza garage.
The 24 hour 7 day local state of emergency relates to snow clearing and removal in the Southern Peninsula is in effect.
