UPDATED: Province Backtracks On Statement About Help For Flooded Recreational Properties

The province appears to be backtracking on a statement it made about developing a financial program for recreational properties affected by flooding.

Many recreational property owners are upset they weren’t included in the disaster financial assistance program announced last week.

It appeared some help was on the way when we spoke with Geoffrey Downey of the province’s Emergency Measures Organization on Monday morning.

“The provincial government is developing a program to help ease the financial burden for recreational property owners in New Brunswick who have been affected by the flood,” said Downey.

But late Monday afternoon, Downey told us the province is still “considering its options” and hadn’t made any final decisions.

More than 3,000 people have signed an online petition asking the province to include recreational properties in the disaster financial assistance program.
