Members of Riverview’s Fire and Rescue are in Newcastle Creek, which is an area in Grand Lake, offering assistance to flood victims.
Deputy Fire Chief Robin True says spent over 30 years in the Jemseg area, before moving to Riverview and he has never seen anything like it.
“I have never seen anything approaching this. This is exceeded even the damage that was done in 1973 in the floods, and 2008. This is historic proportions. There are properties in the area, along the entire length of Grand lake and some are completely destroyed while others haven’t been touched and other properties are somewhere in the middle. Wind has also been an issue. Some properties have been massively disturbed by the winds we had a couple of days ago.”
Crews have been going from house to house by road and by boat to inspect properties and make contact with residents and they’ll be reporting the damage levels to the province.
Members of the Dieppe Fire and Moncton Fire are also assisting in flood ravaged areas of the province.
