UPDATE: Oland Trial Underway In Saint John Today

The Dennis Oland second degree murder trial is underway at the Saint John Law Courts building.

He came into court this morning with his mother Connie.

The first alternate juror has taken the place of juror number four who Justice Jack Walsh says is unable to continue.

Justice Walsh tells the jury that Dennis Oland is presumed innocent and starts the trial with a clean slate.

In his opening statement, Lead Crown Prosecutor P J Veniot says the autopsy found the cause of Richard Oland’s death was multiple sharp blunt force injuries to head. There were 40 strikes to head & neck.

Veniot says there were 6 defensive wounds to Richard Oland’s hands.
