Educare West Owner Looking To The Future

Educare West says this isn’t the end for their centre in Moncton.

The daycare was forced to close and their licenses taken away this week.

Operator Kimberly MacLean says this has been devastating for her and her staff, “When you go to work everyday and there are 20 women depending on the pay cheque, and there’s 150 families who need a safe place for their children, it’s really hard to walk away.”

She says right now their priority is to ensure the parents are refunded and the staff are paid.

Parents will also be contacted about receiving a refund in full.

Meantime, in a statement from the provincial government, Spokesperson Leah Fitzgerald issued an email on behalf of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. It said, “The department’s primary concern is, and will continue to be, the safety, security and development of children.”

It also stated if the Minister believes a daycare can be hurtful to the children, then the Operator may be advised to close the centre. This is the directive that was given to Educare West on St. George Blvd.
