The Trudeau government announcing new measures for reviewing the Energy East pipeline project.
They plan to take part in deeper consultations with Indigenous people who may be affected by the project and wll provide funding to support that.
Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr intends to recommend the appointment of three temporary members to the National Energy Board and to assess the upstream greenhouse gas emissions associated with the project and make this information public.
The Feds will also help facilitate more public input into the National Energy Board review process.
Saint John MP Wayne Long says the changes will add another 5-6 months to the process which has already been in the review stage for a few months.
