Studies have shown that if you wear a ski helmet, you can decrease serious injury and death by 60 per cent.
On three out of the four ski hills in the province, mandatory helmet policies have been put into place. Poley Mountain in Sussex, Sugarloaf Park in Campbellton, and Mont Farlagne in Edmundston.
President of the New Brunswick Medical Society Dr. John Whelan says they are applauding their decision, but they’d like to see that apply to all four hills.
He says, “This wasn’t meant to pressure Crabbe. They are under new ownership, and I think once they get by their business plan and how they’re going to try and make a go on the hill, I think they will probably institute mandatory helmets also, at least we hope that.”
Dr. Whalen says roughly 75 to 90 per cent of skiers across North America wear a helmet voluntarily…
