Trudeau Speaks On Inquiry Into Missing, Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wants the inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls to bring about justice for the victims, give families an opportunity to heal and set a path forward to end the tragedy.

Trudeau says for too long in this country they have gone missing without much notice.

“Without much reaction, without society in general realizing the tragedies that are among us.”

In December of last year the federal government announced the launch of the inquiry and has earmarked $40-million over two years for the inquiry.

16-percent of all women murdered in Canada between 1980 and 2012 were Indigenous though Indigenous women make up only 4-percent of the country’s female population. An RCMP report identified over 1100 missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls – over 160 missing and over 1000 murder victims.
