Traditional Homecoming High School Football Game Won’t Be Played This Year

There’s disappointment from some students after because an annual tradition won’t be held this year.

There will not be a homecoming football game between the Harrison Trimble Trojans and the Moncton High Purple Knights.

A former student has launched a petition with a proposal for the New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Graig Mellon says this is the first time in 50 years that the homecoming game won’t happen.

He says it draws big crowds, of both students and alumni, and boosts the spirit of the football players because of the support they receive from their fans.

“What I am asking of the league is for a friendly exhibition game between the two teams. It could be held during the Thanksgiving weekend at Rocky Stone field,” Mellon says.

The reason is because Harrison Trimble now has a 10 man team as opposed to a 12 man, which puts them into a different division than Moncton High.

Hundreds have already signed the online petition.

Mellon adds that substituting another team is not going to cut it.
