Three Baton Rouge Police Officers Shot And Killed By Former Marine

Law enforcement has released more information about the gunman who shot and killed three police officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A fourth police officer was severely wounded.

The shooter has been identified as 29 year old Gavin Long was a former U.S. Marine who had been awarded several medals, served a six month tour of duty in Iraq and was honourably discharged.

The shootings occurred after police responded to a report of a man armed with an assault rifle yesterday morning who was seen at a convenience store. Shots began ringing out shortly thereafter.

President Barack Obama denounced the shootings as cowardly and reprehensible, adding now is the time to be careful about the words we use because they do matter.

Police say Long was the lone shooter. One of the officers who died was black as was the shooter.
