The Latest Trial Balloon Is An HST Rebate

It seems like a certainty that the provincial HST will be increasing by two per cent in next week’s budget.

The proposed floating another trial balloon last week with a proposed HST tax credit.

Energy and Mines Minister Donald Arsenault was asked how the government plans to pay for this.

He says if they area going to collect an extra 2 per cent on the HST the revenue would be about $300 million dollars and they would use $100 million of that for this rebate to offset the impacts on those with low incomes.

While Arsenault claims no decisions have been made for the February 2nd budget, he said New Brunswickers are telling the government they support an increase to the HST.
