Signs Installed Reminding Ice Fishers To Take Care Of The Environment

New signs have been put up at Dominion Park, Renforth Wharf and Cameron Road reminding people going ice fishing to take care of the environment.

The province, Saint John and Rothesay teamed up to install these signs in these areas which have seen issues with shelters not being properly maintained. Environment Minister Brian Kenny says they want to remind New Brunswickers of their responsibility to ensure activities do not harm the environment.

Under the Clean Environment Act, if you own a fishing shelter you have to pu tyour name and address on the outside of it, mount it on skids or runners, remove it along with its contents until the spring thaw and properly get rid of all the waste on the land.

The winter fishing season in New Brunswick is open from January 1 to March 31 and shacks have to be removed before midnight on April 2.
