The father of Canadian hero Terry Fox has been diagnosed with cancer.
Rolly Fox is a former smoker and now battling lung cancer.
He quit nearly 30 years ago on a dare from his brother and never looked back.
The Fox family stated lung cancer is often neglected as a funding priority for research because of the smoking stigma around it.
Federal Health Minister Jane Philpott tweeted she was sad to hear about Fox’s condition.
She adds Canadians are standing with the Fox family.
In recent years, the elder Fox has been more active visiting Terry Fox runs across Canada and personally signing more than 14,000 thank-you cards each year.
The family did not release any further information surrounding his diagnoses or treatment options – although they will provide updates when they can.
