Tens Of Thousands Of New Brunswickers Left In Dark During First Snow Storm Of Season

The storm not only has residents across the province digging out, it also has NB Power crews repairing downed lines.

The heavy wet snow on trees brought down branches and power lines.

At the height of the outage, there were over 40, 000 New Brunswickers without electricity.

Spokesperson Marie Andree Bolduc says there were concerns that there may be a number of blown transformers, but that wasn’t the case, “We’re hearing that there is not much infrastructure damage, just contact with trees.”

One of the common sightings earlier today, were several blue flashes of light. Bolduc says this is not uncommon, it is called ARCing, when there is a contact with the power lines. It is part of the design of the distribution line.

Bolduc says a few crews crews were brought from northern New Brunswick to help get the power back on in this area.
