Tenants Displaced After Fire Damages Cameron Street Apartment Building

It took Moncton firefighters less than an hour to extinguish a fire at a home on Cameron Street Friday evening.

Acting Platoon Chief Steve Crawford says they got the call about a possible fire at 8:40 last night.

“Upon our arrival, we had light smoke showing on the second floor of the front side of the structure, firefighters quickly knocked down a small fire in the front apartment,” says Crawford. “It’s a four unit apartment building, [and] nobody was injured.”

Crawford says initially the cause of the fire was believed to be a lightning strike, but subsequent investigation by NB Power and Fire prevention was unable to prove that.

The investigation is continuing.

Dan Bedell with the Canadian Red Cross, says nine tenants have been temporarily displaced by the fire, and two adults have been given emergency lodging.

He says they stand ready to help the three other adults, three teens and a child from the other apartments.
