The Trans Canada Highway between Moncton and Fredericton in both directions is expected to remain closed for another few days.
Spokesperson for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Ahmed Dassouki says they understand this has been an inconvenience.
“Having it closed for that many days has an impact on everyone whether it be commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles or emergency vehicles. My understanding is, with the heavy winds that happened the other days and the water splashing on the highway, that potentially caused some damage. The water did go over the lanes for a few days.”
Dassouki says assessments will have to be done to determine the extent of the damage.
“At the end of the day, the highway has to be safe before it is open,” Dassouki says.
