The Superior Propane Centre is receiving $300, 000 from the city to help with upgrades and renovations to its centre.
General Manager Nick Frizzell says more and more women are using their ice facilities, and that means it is time to make changes to the way dressing rooms are set up.
“We are planning on renovating the washrooms. We have shared washrooms, where you have the potential of males and females in there at the same time, so there could be conflicts. When the facility was built in 2002, it was kind of an industry standard that was fine at the time, but it is not as acceptable now that there are shared washrooms.”
The cost of the renovation is $400, 000. $300, 000 of that is coming from the city, and the centre is paying for the remainder.
Frizzell expects the upgrades will be done in June, which is their slowest month of the year.
“We do go down to two sheets of ice at that point, so two sheets of ice will be out and we can work on those. Then we can stagger the rest of the renovations around the program that we do have in place.”
He expects to will take 6 to 8 weeks to get the work completed.
