The Founder of the local Sue Stultz and Moncton Firefighters Association turkey drive still holds the cause close to her heart.
Sue Stultz started the campaign 19 years ago, from her store and gas station on St. George Boulevard.
A man brought her in a turkey, and asked if she would ensure that it got to the food bank, for a family in need.
From there, the campaign has grown to include the whole community, “Everyone that is involved in in which is thousands of people actually, it really humbles me to see the people come together for such a great cause. This isn’t my turkey drive, it isn’t about Sue Stultz and never was, it is all about feeding people who needed our help.”
The turkeys are donated down back at the St. George Blvd fire station each year. Stultz is often there to accept the turkeys, and she says it is especially heartwarming to see the children making a donation, “I tell the children that at Christmas time, when they smell their turkey cooking, to take a moment and reflect back, to understand that there is a family smelling their turkey cooking, that they had given to the needy. And through the years, I have talked to the children and if they mentioned the work poor, I would say, no, a lot of people are rich in other things, and it’s our just that the needy are kept as well as we are.”
Turkey donations are currently being accepted down back at the St. George Boulevard fire station.
They hope to reach their goal of 4315 turkeys by December 9th.
