Snow, Ice Pellets and Freezing Rain All Expected In Greater Moncton Today

It’s going to be a day filled with messy winter weather, according to Environment Canada.

Meteorologist Claude Coté says we should expect about five centimetres of snow fall before it changes to a mix of ice pellets and freezing rain before noon.

“So we’ll see a couple hours of ice pellets and freezing rain, not necessarily much in the way of accumulation of freezing precipitation, maybe just two [or] three millimetres,” says Coté.

He adds by midafternoon or so we will likely see “brisk southerly winds gusting to 60, 70 km/h, and the temperature climbing above the freezing mark, so the precipitation will change to rain, and we’re looking at maybe five to ten millimetres.”

Coté says we may get as high as 9 degrees above zero by Tuesday afternoon.

Environment Canada is cautioning the public that freezing rain will likely make highways, roads, walkways and parking lots slippery and dangerous, and is urging everyone to be cautious.
