‘She Feels Like A Rockstar’: Saint John Girl At IWK Overwhelmed With Cards And Gifts

An outpouring of love and support has been delivered by mail to a six-year-old Saint John girl who’s at the IWK.

Patti Given says her daughter, Selena St. Pierre, had a complication from a scope, suffering a tear in her bowel which caused her to become very sick and she had to be rushed to the Halifax hospital.

A post on a local Facebook group asked that people send cards to Selena and the response has been huge.

“She feels like a rockstar,” Given says with a chuckle. “She just keeps saying, ‘Oh my gosh Mom, oh my gosh,’ and of course for me it makes me cry just to see how many people actually care — it’s amazing.”

“We even had one that came from a 911 operator and her husband is a fireman, so that was pretty cool.”

Patti says her daughter was feeling a little depressed from being at the hospital, but all week you could see her spirits continue to be lifted.

“She’s gotten everything from stuffed animals to stickers to colouring books, in my hand I probably have 40 cards so far, it’s from people we didn’t even know, which makes her feel even more important.”

You can still send Selena some mail — we’re told she likes anything girly, rainbows, butterflies, hearts, and her favourite colours are pink and purple.
