Moncton’s Mayor took some time to look back on some of the successful events in the Hub City for 2015.
George Leblanc says the FIFA Women’s World Cup drew in large crowds to the Moncton Stadium in June.
He says, “We were one of the host cities for that, so we had a piece of one of the biggest sporting events on the plant. The people involved in the event were very, very happy with how things went in Moncton. We even received a distinction from media in England.”
Another memorable event for Moncton in 2015, was the return of AC/DC to the Magnetic Hill concert site in September.
It broke the silence on the Hill after roughly three years without a concert. Tens of thousands of people attended.
As to what is to come for 2016, Leblanc says, “We’re working away and continuing to look for leads and possibilities for the coming year. We’ll keep our fingers crossed and who knows what might happen.”
The Mayor says one major event is already planned for 2016 that he is looking forward to. After securing the financing for a downtown entertainment centre, a groundbreaking will be held. It is expected to happen in March.
