Extreme Weather in 2015, Meant Many Snow Days For Students

2015 was certainly a year that many students, teachers and parents won’t forget.

Superintendent for Anglophone East Gregg Ingersoll says, “We had rain storms and snowstorms, so that was really a preoccupation for us.”

That extreme weather forced them to cancel class on more than one occasion. That left them scrambling to make up the lost time.

Ingersoll says, “We were always trying to compensate for those lost days. If you miss a couple of days, it’s one thing, but when you miss 13 or 14 days of school, you really have to readjust and make sure students get the essential learning that they should get during the school year.”

The decision on whether to cancel school for the day is made early in the morning. The School District works with the Department of Transportation to determine if it is safe to run buses or to keep schools open.

If snow if forecast later in the day, they look at whether it may cause problems, when students are trying to get home..
