More than 400 people packed the Chocolate River Station in Riverview, New Brunswick last night, angry over the government’s new policy that would see wealthy seniors contribute more for nursing care.
Executive Director of the Seniors Coalition Cecile Cassista says the new policy is demoralizing,
Cassista says she is receiving a lot of phone calls from seniors because says no one wants to pay $6000 a month for care.
Conservative MLA for Moncton Northwest Ernie Steeves says tapping wealthier seniors to contribute more for their nursing home care is unnecessary and is only happening because the Liberals promised too much during the election campaign and are spending to much money.
Steeves says the Conservatives gave the Liberals a plan that would have balanced the budget without having to, in his words, attack seniors.
