Second Fredericton cemetery targeted by vandals

A second cemetery in Fredericton has been the target of vandals, according to police.

Around 16 headstones were damaged at the Fredericton Rural Cemetery off Woodstock Road.

Investigators say some of the headstones were pushed over while others were spray painted.

It is believed the vandalism took place sometime before 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Earlier this week, police reported that the headstones of several veterans were defaced at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Investigators believe those incidents took place over the past two weekends, from Sept. 22 to 24 and from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.

“It is unknown at this time if the crimes are connected, as they are still under investigation,” the police force said in a news release on Friday.

A spokesperson for the police force said they have increased patrols in and around cemeteries in the city.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fredericton Police Force at 506-460-2300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
