“Second Chances” for the disadvantaged and marginalized in Moncton

A non profit organization is working to reduce poverty in Moncton.

Second Chance Workshop helps people on social assistance find a job by training them in the repair, refurbishment and resale of furniture and electrical appliances.

Paul Leblanc is a volunteer with the organization and says they screen candidates suggested by the Department of Social Assistance and enroll them in 12 or 26 week programs to teach them skills.

“Some people that had it rough for some reason or another, ended up on welfare, says Leblanc. “And if they wanted to get out of the rut they are in, we give them a chance to go out and find a job.”

Second Chance Workshop runs a used furniture store, “EnviroPlus Registered” at 212B Halifax Street. They ask if you have any extra furniture or appliances you aren’t using, to please consider donating them.
