Saint John man sentenced to life for deaths of two sons

A man convicted in the horrific deaths of his two sons will spend life behind bars.

Forty-six-year-old Roman Kamyshnyy was sentenced on Thursday in Saint John to two concurrent life sentences with parole eligibility in 25 years.

Kamyshnyy was found guilty in June for the first-degree murders of his sons, who were 10 and 17 years old.

The boys were stabbed to death in January 2025 in their north end apartment in Saint John.

In a news conference held following the reading of Kanyshnyy’s verdict, after a trial that lasted around three weeks, Saint John Police Force spokesperson Staff Sgt. Shawna Fowler said the department acknowledged the verdict marks “a significant moment in a deeply distressing and tragic case.”

“This outcome reflects the strength of evidence presented, and the diligence of all those who worked tirelessly to ensure that justice was pursued with integrity and professionalism,” she said.
