Riverview Town Council Approves 2017 Budgets

Riverview residents are going to notice an increase in their property taxes for 2017.

Town Council has approved an over $28 million operating budget, and it includes a two cent increase on its tax rate, which will translate to an annual hike of around 30 dollars for a home owner with a home assessed at around $150 thousand this year.

Mayor Ann Seamans says budgets are getting tougher each year.

Highlights from the operating budget include a $1.7 million balloon debt payment to reduce existing debt and a $250 thousand allocation to the capital reserve earmarked for a future Wellness Centre.

Town Council also approved the 2017 Capital Budget, which includes 600 thousand dollars for pool upgrades and a new pool building at Lion Ken Gabbey Community Pool, money for six local improvement projects, and 800 thousand for the town’s Street pavement Program.

Finally, the 2017 Water and Sewer Utility Operating budget was also approved in the amount of $7.3 million. Residential water bills will increase by $5 per quarter.
