Riverview Hoists International Older Persons Flag At Town Hall

The Town of Riverview raised the International Day of Older Persons flag at Town Hall earlier Thursday morning.

Councillor Cecile Cassista says this is about recognizing the role older persons have played in building our community, and how they should be involved going forward.

“Live in their homes, they live in the community, they pay taxes, they buy groceries, they do all these things,” says Cassista. “Even if they go into facilities of care, they still are contributing.”

“They have a lot of knowledge, and we need to keep reminding ourselves that they are knowledgeable people that we should be learning from,” continues Cassista.

Cassista says on Sunday from 2 to 4 in the afternoon there is a free event celebrating older persons as champions at the Cocoa Room at Chocolate River Station.
