The Sackville Memorial Hospital will eliminate overnight service at its Emergency Department every weekend this Summer, as a result of New Brunswick’s ongoing nursing shortage.
Horizon Health Network announced that the temporary closures will occur every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 4 p.m. until 8 a.m. The changes will begin on June 10 and will continue through to September, with no date set for a return to full service.
The facility will continue to offer around-the-clock service from 8 a.m. Monday until 4 p.m. Friday.
As a result, those who need care will be forced to travel to another hospital, while all ambulances will be diverted.
It’s the latest nursing shortage to affect the service provided by New Brunswick’s Health Networks, as the temporary changes become more frequent.
New Brunswickers are encouraged to call Tele-Care 811 if they have any questions about the type of medical attention they need. As always, in the event of a medical emergency, please call 911.
