RCMP Ticket 232 Drivers During Traffic Enforcement

Mounties handed out a number of tickets and warnings late last week during traffic enforcement operations in Dieppe, Moncton and Riverview.

The New Brunswick RCMP’s Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit (TTEU), with help from Codiac RCMP, conducted an enforcement operation on July 14 and 15, targeting proper use of seatbelts, speeding and distracted driving.

Officers wrote up 232 drivers and towed nine vehicles under the Motor Vehicle Act, including 73 tickets for speeding, 71 tickets for not wearing a seatbelt and 15 tickets for using a hand-held electronic device while driving.

In addition, 16 tickets were issued for driving without a valid inspection and five for driving without a valid driver’s license. Police also charged 15 people for driving while suspended.

“Don’t put your safety and those around you at risk,” said Sgt. Mario Maillet with the TTEU.

“Always keep your eyes on the road, follow the speed limit, buckle up, and drive sober.”

The RCMP’s TTEU conducts regular, targeted traffic enforcement throughout the province with the goals of improving road safety, educating motorists about the rules and reducing serious injury and fatal collisions.
