RCMP Releases Cannabis Use Policy

With a week to go before recreational cannabis becomes legal, RCMP have released their substance use policy.

Employees in safety-sensitive positions cannot use non-medicinal cannabis 28 days prior to reporting to work.

All RCMP officers who are deemed operational are considered to be in a safety-sensitive position.

In a release, RCMP say they have no science to show safe limits and people can be intoxicated by cannabis long after it is initially consumed.

Without that science, RCMP is taking a careful approach to ensure workplace and public safety is maintained at all times.

As first responders, in rural and remote communities RCMP officers can be called back for duty at any time.

RCMP employees will not be subject to random substance testing.

The cannabis policy is set to go into effect once cannabis becomes legal October 17.
