New Brunswicker Forced To Evacuate Home In Florida Panhandle

More than two million Florida residents have voluntarily left their homes, or have been forced out by Hurricane Michael.

It is forecast to be the most destructive storm to ever hit the Florida Panhandle.

Roxanne Jobe is originally from Saint John, but she bought a home with her husband in Florida a year ago.

She lives in a little town called Sea Grove Beach, which is right on the ocean, and it is in the Florida Panhandle.

She told us they were forced out of their home and are now living in an RV in Mississippi as they wait for the storm to pass.

“We feel really fortunate because we do have the ability to get out of harm’s way in the storm, but a lot of people don’t. That is worst thing to watch it come up and know what some people don’t have the choice but it is just hard to see what it is going to do to some people who can’t get out of harm’s way.”

Jobe says, when something like this happens, you realize the important things, “We took our family photos, we have out two beloved pets with us, and that’s all we needed. Just all of the clothes we could fit in the RV and everything else can be replaced.”

Once the storm passes, Jobe says she is unsure when they’ll know when it is safe to go home, “We knew how to get out, but we aren’t really sure how to get back. We don’t know when it will be safe to go back in. We are signed up for electronic alerts, so I’m sure they’ll let us know when it is safe to go back in to see what the damage is.”
