Provincial Grant Money Doled Out To Municipalities

Municipalities around New Brunswick getting the word on how much unconditional grant money they’re receiving next year from the province. The total amount increases to almost 73 million dollars which is a rise of 1.2 million.

Saint John gets almost 21 million dollars. That’s an increase of 1.3 million from this year but the tax base in the city will be growing by an anemic .56 per cent.

St. Stephen’s unconditional grant amounts to 1.4 million next year and that’s an increase of 383 thousand dollars.

Grand Bay-Westfield will be receiving 20 thousand dollars more but not everyone is so fortunate.

Quispamsis, which is contemplating a tax increase, will see its unconditional grant reduced by 325 thousand dollars and Rothesay, which could be imposing a two cent property tax hike, will have its grant from the province cut by 93 thousand. Both towns saw increases in their tax bases.

Hampton will get 84 thousand fewer dollars.

Sussex enjoys an increase of 85 hundred dollars but Sussex Corner is having its unconditional grant lowered by 21 thousand.

Moncton, which is facing a 2 million dollar deficit, will receive 3.2 million dollars less next year from the provincial government and Fredericton 1.3 million dollars less.
