Provincial Economy Adds 1,600 Jobs In September

The provincial economy added about 1,600 jobs and the unemployment rate dropped in September.

According to Statistics Canada’s monthly labour force survey, the province gained 1,500 full time jobs, helping the unemployment rate drop to 7.9 per cent, down from 8.3 per cent in August.

In the Moncton to Richibucto area, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6.4 per cent.

Meanwhile, in the Saint John to St Stephen area, the unemployment rate fell from 7.3 per cent in August to 6.9 per cent last month.

Nationally, employment rose by 63,000 jobs in September, driven primarily by part time positions.

Across Canada, year over year, employment was up 222,000 jobs thanks to gains in full time work positions.
