Province To Develop Policy To Help Decide Whether Or Not To Fund Proposed Downtown Entertainment Centre

Premier Brian Gallant says the province is developing a policy which will guide decisions around large projects such as funding a downtown centre in Moncton.

The Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce is responding to Gallant’s remarks which he made in a recently published commentary.

Chamber chairperson Scott Lewis believes the project will give the province a healthy return on its investment.

He feels the downtown entertainment centre is an investment that the province should partner with the City on…

Lewis says it’s not clear whether the development of a new policy will delay a decision or not but he adds the chamber simply wants a decision soon.

But the New Brunswick Finance Minister has offered no timeline on when a policy will be ready to officially be put into place, but says it will not be done overnight.

Roger Melanson says they will take the time they need to ensure it is looked at thoroughly.

He says they want to have a solid well thought out policy with a strong return on investments for taxpayers, and that is why the Premier has come out and made his position very clear.
