The Premiers, at their meeting in the Yukon, will wrestle with the thorny issue of what to do about interprovincial trade barriers.
A recent court case on whether it should be illegal to buy cheaper beer in Quebec and bring it into New Brunswick got a lot of attention across the country.
Prime Minister Trudeau would like trade barriers to come down. He’s optimistic difficult issues with the provinces can be resolved, pointing to the recent agreement to enhance the Canada Pension Plan.
Robust discussions are also expected over the possible imposition of a carbon tax on climate change, which the Prime Minister has not ruled out, and how much money should be transferred to provinces for healthcare.
The Governor of the Bank of Canada says interprovincial trade barriers are bad for the economy.
