Premier Being Praised For Recognising Literacy Is A Problem

The Literacy Coalition of New Brunswick has presented the provincial government with a two year strategic plan.

This comes as Premier Brian Gallant seeks ideas on how to make the province more literate and , as such, more attractive to businesses. Frank Hayes is President of the Literacy Coalition and says the Premier gets it when it comes to recognising how essential it will be for the province’s economic future to make New Brunswickers more literate.

He believes what will emerge is a plan focused on starting early with children a couple of years before they even start kindergarten along with raising public consciousness and getting parents on board.

Hayes goes on to say a real in your face challenge is what can you do to help those people who left school without the literacy skills needed to make it in the knowledge economy of the 21st century.
