Many people who rely on the mail to receive cheques are undoubtedly worried about a potential work stoppage at Canada Post as early as next weekend (July 2).
However, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers says it has signed an agreement with the Crown corporation to deliver cheques despite a possible strike or a lockout.
Moncton CUPW spokesperson Linda Campbell says this initiative was led by the union.
“We don’t want to see anyone (experience) undue hardship because of a labour dispute,’ she notes.
Negotiations are continuing but both sides in the labour dispute admit they are far apart on many issues including wages and pension reform.
