With the resignation of New Brunswick NDP Leader Dominic Cardy coming after the results of the provincial election came in, the future of the party is by all accounts uncertain.
While they may have failed to get any seats in the Legislature, political science professor at the University of New Brunswick Donald Wright doesn’t believe the so-called “New NDP” was a total failure.
He says it was successful in the sense that more New Brunswickers voted for them than ever before but by moving the party to the centre, they alienated many of their hardcore activist supporters.
Wright says in the Fredericton area at least, those voters flocked to the Green Party.
