Former Fundy Baykeeper Says Vegetation, Wildlife Returning To Partridge Island

Just off the city’s coast sits former quarantine station Partridge Island which has remained relatively untouched these past few decades giving Mother Nature the opportunity to reclaim the land.

That’s according to former Fundy Baykeeper and member of the Saint John chapter of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick Dave Thompson.

Thompson says the vegetation is coming back meaning conditions are right for bird habitat on the island both for nesting waterfowl in the Bay of Fundy along with migrating birds and mammals. It’s important, he says, that this be preserved.

There has been much discussion lately about the potential for Patridge Island to be developed as a tourist attraction and Thompson says to minimize impact on vegetation and wildlife, they’d reccommend only having interpretive trails along with signage.
