Provincial People’s Alliance Party Leader Kris Austin says the office of the Language Commissioner is out of date.
He says Katherine d’Entremont’s recommendation for bilingual security officers is wasteful, and ridiculous.
“I don’t believe that she’s working in the best interests of New Brunswickers and I think what she’s doing in her report is just furthering the tensions between the French and English here in New Brunswick,” says Austin.
“It’s wasteful, it’s ridiculous, it’s everything that New Brunswick isn’t,” adds Austin. “Look, all that is needed on this language issue is just an ounce of common sense.”
He adds d’Entremont appears to be living in a pipe dream if she expects all civil servants and contractors to be bilingual.
“She’s dreaming, it’s unattainable and it’s not needed, she’s fabricating a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist,” says Austin.
He says it’s clear a one-size-fits-all approach simply doesn’t work.
