Moncton’s proposed $107 million downtown centre is far from a sure thing since the project still lacks funding from the federal and provincial governments.
During a brief visit to the city yesterday, federal Finance Minister Joe Oliver was asked to weigh-in on possible funding from Ottawa but he couldn’t make any commitments.
“The Minister of Infrastructure, Denis Lebel, will be examining the applications from the provinces and the municipalities and he will make his determination.”
Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe MP Robert Goguen has said federal support for a downtown centre will depend on a commitment from the provincial government.
The Gallant government has said it needs time to develop a new policy for funding large projects.
