Robert “Bob” R. Welling

July 8, 1947  –  April 16, 2026

“Long story short”, the accounts you might have heard of Bob’s many adventures are actually true. His latest adventure was passing from this life on April 16. He went to the hospital by ambulance on April 12 and four days later, he was taken off life support at his request. Those four days were spent with friends and with those he called family.

Bob was no stranger to hospitals; many weeks as a youth were spent in hospitals here and in Halifax. Since February of 2023, he has lived a life of luxury at Briarlea home on Ryan St. where he made many friends who were with him till the end. He was very grateful for the care that he received.

This little Bob that could, nevertheless, lived as a giant. “Can’t” wasn’t in his vocabulary. He was addicted to sports and to flawed driving! He graduated from Harrison Trimble High School in 1967 and after studies at Oulton Business College, he worked for the Department of Transport/Transport Canada until 2012 at the age of 65.

We remember Bob mostly by his unusual adventures and his generosity to his friends. His bad driving, jumping off bridges, hunting rabbits and moose, road trips, climbing trees to get into friend’s bedroom windows.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Betty (O’Brien) Welling. He is survived by many cousins and his adopted family – the MacDonalds, Lounders and Tates.

A gathering of friends will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home & Fergusons Crematorium, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (506-858-1995) from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, April 20, 2026.  All are welcome.

In Bob’s memory and honour, donations may be made to Friends of the Moncton Hospital. we extend his thanks to the staff of the Moncton Hospital who cared for him. Online condolences may be shared at
