Phyllis Isabel Anderson

1929 – 2026

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Phyllis Isabel Anderson on May 29, 2026. She slipped away peacefully with her son David and daughter in law Nilda by her side at her Serena Care Home on Briar Lea Drive in Moncton.

She will be dearly missed by David Anderson and Nilda. Also, by surviving sister Mary MacInnes and brother James MacLaurin and sister-in-law Grace MacLaurin. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews from both the Anderson Family and the MacLaurin Family.

Aside from her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her Husband of over 50 years, Russell Anderson, her parents, Robert and Marion MacLaurin and by sisters Campsie and her husband Roger MacLean and her sister Vivian Barrett and her husband Herman.

Phyllis was the first child of Robert and Marion MacLaurin and was born in January of 1929 in the picturesque idyllic farming community of Belmont Lot 16, Prince Edward Island. She was followed quickly by her three sisters: Campsie, Vivian and Mary and then by her brother James. Hers was a loving family to grow up with in the beautiful shores of Malpeque Bay.

Phyllis studied accounting and secretarial work in Summerside at 18 years of age. After passing her courses, she moved with cousin Jessie to legion her work life. She met her Russell soon after and by 1948 they were married. David came along in August of 1950 and when he started school in 1956, Phyllis joined the work force with Blue Cross. She worked happily there for 30 years.

They say you can take the girl out of the island, but you can’t take the PEI out of the girl. That was true of Phyllis, from the time she left the island at 18 years of age until her 96th year, she visited her old homestead 4 to 5 times every year with Russell, David and Nilda. She loved her family and all their children dearly.

In later life she enjoyed her trips with her sisters in the Martimes, Quebec, Ontario, Florida, and New England. Thay all had smiles on their faces when they left and when they returned.

She lost Russell to a heart situation in 1970 but stayed in her own home until December of 2024, she was active in her neighbourhood and volunteered in the Library of Forest Glen School.

She lived a full and verdant life with a smile on her face at all times. She saw the best in people and just didn’t have a bad word to say about anyone. I never heard a bad word about my mother.

She will be missed greatly.

In keeping with her wishes, Phyllis has been cremated. She will have a service at a later time at her Belmont Baptist Church next door to her family farm. She will then go to rest next to her husband Russell in Elmwood Cemetery in Moncton. Arrangements are entrusted to Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd Riverview (506-869-2007). David and Nilda would like to thank Dr. B Mallet and Dr. J Cormier for their time care of Phyllis over the past 10 years and thank you to Susan Dixon and all the girls at Serena Care for the time and unending care they gave Phyllis over the year and a half she spent at the home.

Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Belmont Baptist Church.
