1954 – 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Jean Grant of Riverview, who passed away on September 29, 2026, at The Moncton Hospital. Peter was born in Campbellton, NB, son of the late Jean and Irene (nee Guidry) Grant.
Peter was a man of strength and gentleness, hardworking and soft-hearted, with an infectious laugh and a kindness that touched everyone who knew him. He taught his family by example what it meant to work hard, care for others, and be someone people could count on.
Family was at the heart of Peter’s life. He loved to cook, and his Sunday suppers brought everyone together around the table. A gracious host, he always made sure everyone was taken care of before himself. He also loved playing video games, remaining an avid gamer well into his later years and sometimes putting younger players to shame.
The family cottage was a place of joy for Peter, where he loved gathering with friends and family around a bonfire. Some of the fondest memories are of him standing at the edge of the lawn, a cigar in his mouth, hitting golf balls into the shallows for his grandson to snorkel and retrieve. His laughter carried across the water, along with his own funny, made-up songs and jingles. He’d park his car on the lawn with its trunk open, blasting John Cougar Mellencamp from his old boom box. Whatever was happening in the world, Peter brought a sense of fun that made ordinary days unforgettable.
Peter lived with corticobasal syndrome, which gradually took away his mobility, his speech, and much of his independence. Through it all, his bright spirit and infectious laugh remained. Even when words were no longer possible, there were still moments of humour, affection, and connection with the people he loved.
Peter leaves his family with treasured memories and an example of strength tempered by kindness. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered for his laughter, his generous heart, and the joy he brought to being together.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Barbara, stepdaughter; Meagan (Jeff), stepsons; Christian (Trish) and Justin (Katrisha), sisters; Anne (Addah) and Rachelle, brothers; Michel (Ghislaine) and Gerald (Lisette), his grandchildren; Zachary, Lola, and Hannah, and several nieces and nephews.
Aside from his parents, Peter was predeceased by his brother-in-law; Don.
In keeping with Peter’s wishes, cremation has taken place at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road Riverview (506-869-2007).
Donations may be made to Friends of The Moncton Hospital.
