Lewis “Lewie” Alexander Briggs

July 12, 1951  –  August 8, 2026

It is with deep sadness that the family of Lewis Alexander (“Lewie”) Briggs announces his unexpected passing on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at The Moncton Hospital, with his family by his side.

Born on July 12, 1951, in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick, Lewis was the oldest of four and son of the late Perley and Ida (“Boots”) Briggs.

For 47 years, Lewis and Janice made their home in Sisson Ridge, where they raised their family. In 2025, Lew and Jan downsized and relocated to Moncton to be closer to their adult children.

Lewis quickly made the most of his new life in Moncton. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he enjoyed the local sports scene as a spectator but got into the action himself every chance he got: Golf in the summer and hockey in the winter.

Everybody felt, when meeting Lewis, that he radiated “good guy” and his dog, a golden retriever called Cal, was happy to take advantage of this quality. For 10 years they were inseparable friends. Cal passed away only two weeks before Lewis.

Grieving his loss are his beloved wife of almost 55 years, Janice, son Scott (Stacey) and daughter Holly (Rob), and cherished grandsons, Dexter and Miles. Lewis will also be dearly missed by his siblings, Lola McDevitt (Pete), Lynn Briggs (Valorie), and Connie Ruff (Dan); his sister-in-law, Ann Harmon (Tom); several dear nieces, nephews, cousins; and all Lewis’s friends whose lives were made lighter and warmer by knowing him.

**A celebration of Lewis’s life is planned for Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Brunswick Funeral Home (67 Everett Lane Plaster Rock, NB 506-273-4155). Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 PM followed immediately by the service. Those wishing to are invited to join the family at the Plaster Rock Fire Hall following the service for a reception.

Arrangements in Moncton have been entrusted to Fergusons Funeral Home & Fergusons Crematorium, 1657 Mountain Rd. Moncton, NB (506) 858-1995.

In lieu of flowers a charitable donation to the Tobique Valley Back Pack Program or the Mama Bear Cancer Fund would be greatly appreciated.
