1932 ~ 2026
Shediac, NB – Léo Gallant, 93, played his final round and passed away peacefully on May 30th, 2026, at Maison Providence in Shediac.
Born on July 25, 1932, in Shediac Bridge (NB), Léo was the son of the late Amédée and the late Viola (née Petitpas) Gallant.
Léo was well known in the community. A sheet metal worker by trade, he worked for many years at Boudreau Sheet Metal in Dieppe, until he ventured out on his own with Gallant Sheet Metal (Shediac Bridge). During his 45-year career, Léo always recounted with pride his work on many of NB’s iconic copper church steeples.
As a younger man he was a baseball player, an avid bowler, a hockey coach, a softball umpire, and a horse racing enthusiast. But he was always happiest on the golf course and never passed up an opportunity to play.
Throughout his seven decades navigating the fairways and greens of various golf courses, Léo became a near scratch golfer, won multiple local tournaments and championships, and also managed to score an impressive four holes-in-one. He played for many years at Lakeside Golf in Lakeville, and in his later years, he especially enjoyed his golf rounds with the Tuesday and Thursday Senior Men’s groups as a member of the Pine Needles Golf Course in Upper Aboujagane (NB).
Léo loved sports, a good joke, and above all, he loved his family. He was pre-deceased in 2024 by his sweetheart and loving wife of 72 years, Priscilla (née Fagan), who is looking forward to caddying his next round.
He will be dearly missed by his children: Léo-Paul (Herbie) Gallant (Francine) of Shediac, Fernand Gallant (Rachel) of Shediac, Alphé Gallant (Jolène) of Grande-Digue, and Rose May Gallant (Mike LeBlanc) of Shediac; his grandchildren: Akiko Lovett-Mackintosh (Keith), Richard Gallant, Tanya Gagnon (Randy), Joshua Waite, and Mathieu Gallant (Jessica Bourque); his great-grandchildren: Jacob Waite, Millie Gallant, and Mikola Gallant, as well as his siblings Normand Gallant (Noëlla) of Shediac, and Angela Gallant (late Frankie) of Shediac Bridge.
Besides his wife and his parents, Léo was predeceased by his siblings: Géraldine Bourgeois (late Fernand), Laurie Gallant (Anita), Normand Gallant (baby), Émile Gallant (late Irène), Ronald Gallant (Léa), and Yvonne Babineau (late Raymond).
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of both Résidence O Bon Soins and Maison Providence in Shediac for their compassionate care and kindness.
A Celebration of Life, to honor Léo and his wife Priscilla, will be held at Passage, 3754 Route 134, Shediac Bridge, NB, (506) 532-1050, on Saturday, June 20th, 2026, from 2 pm to 4 p.m.
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the shots I miss, the courage to try again, and the wisdom not to throw my clubs in the lake.”
