1939 – 2026
It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Karen Jardine of Riverview on May 17, 2026, at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont CHU. Born in Newcastle, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Monica (nee Cunningham).
Karen married Dan in 1960 and moved to Saint John for one year where Sandy was born. Dan’s job took them to North Sidney where the lived for two years, expanding the family with the arrival of Kathy and Buddy. The next move was to New Glasgow in 1964 where Holly was born and the family stayed here for 11 years making many friends and wonderful memories. Karen worked at Eatons and took part in Kinnettes as well as hosting neighborhood card parties. 1975 brought them to Riverview, New Brunswick. This move brought them closer to their New Brunswick families and to their beloved Point Du Chene where they spent countless summers spanning several decades.
Karen worked at Sears for over 40 years and was one of the loyal few who were present on their closing day. She loved to tell her ‘Sears stories’ and share her most recently attained bargain. She kept in touch with many of her Sears ‘family’ and loved meeting up with them regularly for breakfast.
In her free time and after retirement, she loved going on road trips to Nova Scotia with Theresa. She was an avid driver and was always ready for the next adventure, such as fishing in the Miramichi with Carol and Brenda; River tubing with Barry and Judy; nights at the trailer with Kathy and Holly: Halifax and Malagash trips to see The Potters (Sandy). On any given day she could be seen roadtripping around Albert County and beyond with Kathy. One of her most special road trips was to P.E.I. with Sandy, Kathy, Holly and Buddy for her 80th birthday to see Mama Mia! – the musical. It was a full on laugh fest from one end of the island to the other.
Karen was always up for a good time whether it be a game of washer toss, crib, TV Bingo, craps, darts or an occasion trip to the casino.
24 Brewster Street’s open door policy started in September 1975- Karen welcomed everyone with kindness and generosity. She hosted large Christmas sleepovers and equally large dinner parties.
She loved and enjoyed cooking for everyone. She also enjoyed a good meal, such as Patrick’s jambalaya and Kennie’s annual Mother’s Day seafood feast that she enjoyed with his mother and her dear friend, Marg. She did not mind being served or being waited on- she was both a good host and a good guest. (she deserved it!) . She savoured a fine glass of wine (in a wine glass) or a hot cup of tea (in a china cup) with equal pleasure.
Karen loved being at the center of the party. She was our happy matriarch, holding court, making sure everyone was having fun. She loved music and dancing and couldn’t resist getting on her feet when her favorite ‘These Boots Are Made For Walking’ started to play. She had everyone dancing along with her, but nobody could compete with her joyful dance moves!
Karen always wore a necklace, given to her by her best friend Theresa, with the words ‘Live Love Laugh’. These words embody her spirit. She lived life to the fullest, facing all obstacles with grace and courage. She loved deeply and cherished her relationships with family and friends. She had a ready laugh and when it began the rest of us could not help but join in. She always shared her joy.
Karen, Mom, Nanny, Nan J, you will be deeply missed and we will hold you in our hearts and treasure our fond memories of you always.
Left with loving memories of her are her daughters Sandy (Patrick) Potter, Kathy (Ken) Harris, and Holly Jardine (Mario), son James “Buddy” Jardine, sisters Carol (Dave) George and Judy Donovan, step-sisters Patsy (Jackie) Oliver and “Sis”, brother Gerald (Marg) Bernard, grandchildren Danielle(Justin), Courtney (Chris), Stephanie (Chris), Jade (Zack), Dominique(Adam) , Chloe (Sebastian), Rose, Makenzie, and Daniel (Allison), great-grandchildren Jace, Reid, Mason, and Bennet, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband William Daniels Jardine, brother Barry, brother-in-law Frank Donovan, and step-brother Bobby.
Karen’s family will receive friends and relatives at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd, Riverview (506-869-2007) on Thursday, May 21, 2026 from 6-8pm. A private family burial will be held at Alderwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Parkinson Canada or the Albert House Hospice SENB in her memory would be appreciated.
